Buckwalter split time between the Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car circuit (with a pair of runner-up finishes the best of four top-fives and eight top-tens) and the ARDC Midget ranks, where he picked off another five wins in 2009.

Buckwalter had made the Chili Bowl championship feature cut over three of the past four years, with a ninth-place finish last year his best thus far.
