After three years of Midget action, the 21-year-old kicked off the year with a pair of wingless SCRA Sprint Car wins on dirt at King's Speedway then took to the asphalt where he raced to the USAC Western States Sprint Car championship, notching wins at All-American Speedway (May 26) and Altamont Raceway Park (Aug. 18) along the way.  Ryan still mixed in seven Midget starts, finishing among the top-five on four occasions including a BCRA win at Kings Speedway on August 25.
