Race
of Champions Added to Chili Bowl Lineup!
Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla.
(September 10, 2008) – Chili Bowl week
just got a little bit better for the
thousands upon thousands of race fans that
flock to Tulsa each January for the
world's premier auto racing event, as a
Chili Bowl Race of Champions has been
added to the Tuesday night portion of the
event that spans five nights.
The 23rd edition of
the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals is slated
to take place at the QuikTrip Center's
Tulsa Expo Raceway on January 13-17, 2009.
It had previously been
announced that the Tuesday event would
become a full qualifying event in 2009
rather than a "pre-qualifying"
card reserved for Chili Bowl rookies and
relative newcomers, as had been the case
over the previous two years.
Now, in addition to a loaded
field of qualifiers dicing for starting
positions in Saturday's lineup of Chili
Bowl championship feature events, fans
will get an extra opportunity to watch the
elite drivers in Chili Bowl history slug it
out atop the indoor, ¼-mile clay oval for
Chili Bowl Race of Champions bragging
rights.
The list of past Chili Bowl
champions eligible for the event is a
prestigious one, with California native
Damion Gardner the latest to add his name
to the roster after capturing the Golden
Driller in January.
Other past Chili Bowl champions
still actively racing include Tony Stewart
(2007 and 2002), Cory Kruseman (2004 and
2000), Sammy Swindell (1998, 1996, 1992
and 1989), Tim McCreadie (2006), Tracy
Hines (2005), Jon Heydenreich(1990) and
Scott Hatton (1988).
The Chili Bowl Race of
Champions field will be comprised of
approximately 14-16 drivers, with the
balance of the field to be determined.
A number of lucky race fans will be
involved in the Chili Bowl Midget Race of
Champions as well, with fans drawing the
drivers' starting positions to set the
Race of Champions starting grid.
Tickets for the Tuesday night,
January 13, portion of the 23rd
Annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals are
available for just $26 each by calling the
Chili Bowl office at 918-838-3777.
There are no tickets remaining
for the balance of the week (Wednesday
through Saturday), although pit passes
will be available for each night.

regarding the Chili Bowl Nationals is
