#20R -
Ron Capps (Carlsbad, CA)
First
Chili
Bowl Appearance
After
getting a taste of the Chili Bowl Nationals
in last year's Race of Champions, Ron Capps
returns this year for the real thing.
Last
year's Midget Race of Champions was a
definite change of venue for Capps, who is
one of the NHRA's leading Funny Car
drivers. Capps enjoyed it so much,
he convinced Jerry Russell and Danny
Lasoski to put him in one of Russell's
Eagles for the 2004 Chili Bowl.
In
2003, Capps finished in the top ten in
NHRA Funny Car points for the seventh
consecutive year. Capps' win at
Phoenix extended his career win total to
15.
During
his career, Capps has captured the Bud
Shootout at Indianapolis on three separate
occasions, each victory worth $100,000.
Capps
will make the switch from the familiarity
of the drag strip to the tight
quarter-mile clay oval of the Chili Bowl
Nationals in January.
